About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name all over the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name a different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa during the recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after changes to the lineup and a disappointing series of releases. The group returned to the road in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to form for the group and the tour was accompanied it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was made more exciting by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both returned to the band.
